35 Faces of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk: Meet the OLA Team
in Fundraising
35 Faces, 35 years of Walking, 35 Reasons to Give
This year is our first year walking at the Breakthrough T1D One Walk in Atlanta! Our team stands for our school name – Our Lady of Assumption Catholic School (OLA). We currently have 6 students at our school with T1D. Before their diagnoses, we would hear about different fundraising efforts for countless number of diseases and ailments. Until it hit home, they all seemed non-applicable to what we thought were our perfect lives. Having a child with type 1 diabetes made us realize that behind all these different illnesses was a person with a story. Getting involved in the Breakthrough T1D One walk gives us the opportunity to make a difference and become part of an amazing community with one common thread, T1D. It is reassuring to know that our school has this family of special people that can and have supported each other in so many ways. It made perfect sense to create team OLA and fight this disease head-on. Let’s turn type 1 into type NONE!
MJ – diagnosed 4/10/14
