35 Faces of the Breakthrough T1D One Walk: Meet Mitchell
in Fundraising
35 Faces, 35 years of Walking, 35 Reasons to Give
This year is my 15th year walking with my team the Abes Family Team. I was diagnosed with T1D when I was just 2 years old. Since I was diagnosed, my family has been very involved with Breakthrough T1D. We’ve attended the Hope Gala, TypeOneNation, The ONE Party, and more! The best day of the year with Breakthrough T1D though is the Walk. Every year, we post my story on social media and e-mail all our friends and family. Our goal is to raise over $30,000 for T1D research. Last year, my friends carried me over the start and finish line and chanted my name. It is an awesome memory I will never forget. Devouring all the chicken biscuits with my friends is definitely one of the best things about Walk day. This year, my family and I are chairing the Breakthrough T1D One Walk. I am also leading the Walk Ambassador program. A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to share our story with the help of the Walk’s Presenting Sponsor Oldcastle. See the video below! I want people to know that most days with T1D are not fun; however, the Breakthrough T1D One Walk is one of those days where it is fun to have T1D. My family and friends make the day so special for me. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the Breakthrough T1D One Walk tomorrow morning! It’s not too late to register and join the fun: walk.jdrf.org/atlanta
