Mark your calendars! The 2017 Breakthrough T1D One Walk Atlanta is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 21^st. We look forward to another year of community and walking to turn type one into type NONE!

For many years, the Walk has taken place at Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta. The park captures the spirit of the city and has provided the Walk the opportunity to grow and thrive. It has also brought higher level of visibility and awareness for the Breakthrough T1D mission to the Atlanta community.

Earlier this year, Breakthrough T1D received word from the park that they will be undergoing renovations through the end of 2018. The enormity of this project is forcing them to close the park to all events beginning this summer.

Since learning this news, Breakthrough T1D staff and volunteers have been vetting several venues that will accommodate the needs of our event, including space for 10,000 walkers, parking and a safe route. After much research, we are excited to announce that the Walk will be held in the Yellow Lot on the Georgia World Congress Center property.

This event space is one mile from Centennial Olympic Park and allows us the opportunity to revamp the layout and create new Walk day activities for participants to enjoy. We are also excited to have a new walk route which will pass by all the major downtown attractions – Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke, SkyView, the new Mercedez-Benz Stadium – bringing new energy and partnerships with local businesses, while maintaining a high level of visibility for our mission.

While we will see some changes with the Walk, our focus remains the same – a world without type 1 diabetes. Together, we will continue to make progress. Together, we will create a better world for those with T1D. Together, we will turn type one into type NONE.
