Congratulations to our 2019 Children’s Congress Delegates

2019 Children’s Congress

Every two years, Breakthrough T1D International chooses youth delegates from every state to attend the Children’s Congress. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for young people living with T1D to travel to Washington DC,  meet with the most important lawmakers and advocate for their community by explaining what life is like with T1D.  As well as, the importance of continuing funding for research that has resulted in improved technology, treatment methods and steps toward curing Type One!

Breakthrough T1D Georgia Chapter is thrilled to announce our 2019 delegates: Malakai Keita, Hayden Kirk and siblings Catelin, Ty and Michael John Economos! Join us in congratulating this remarkable group of kids!

Family Fun Night- Atlanta Gladiators

On Saturday, March 23, 2019, Breakthrough T1D will be joining the Atlanta Gladiators, the minor league ice hockey affiliate of the Boston Bruins. The Atlanta Gladiators were just named “The Hottest Team in the ECHL,” and we want you to join in on the action! For this game, the Gladiators are having their Marvel Super Hero Night. You can come to meet Thor & Captain America and bid on Groot themed, game-worn jerseys. Dress up as your favorite superhero and join the Gladiators for a fun night of superhero-themed activities! Breakthrough T1D is leading the fight against type one diabetes (T1D) and those affected by T1D are superheroes, themselves! One superhero that is a part of the Gladiators organization is defenseman (#4), Jake Flegel. Flegel was diagnosed with T1D when he was 14 years old and admits that it was a struggle for him initially, but he was not going to let this medical condition affect what he loves to do. A few years after his diagnosis, he got his insulin pump and wears it all the time (even during practices and games). Flegel has fully accepted that he has T1D and even has a tattoo to prove it. He wants to continue helping children understand that even if you have T1D, you can still do anything and everything you want!
