Every year thousands of students managing type 1 diabetes go to college.  Here are some resources to help those students find scholarships and other resources to make college a little easier.

Breakthrough T1D is funding four scholarships for those outstanding college students managing type 1 diabetes.:

• The Breakthrough T1D Medical/Research Scholarship ($1,000) will be awarded to a student majoring in Healthcare
• The Breakthrough T1D Advocacy Scholarship ($1,000) will be awarded to a student majoring in Political Science
• The Breakthrough T1D Outreach Scholarship ($1,000) will be awarded to a student majoring in Mental Health (Psychology/Social Work)
• The Breakthrough T1D Rising Star Scholarship ($1,000) will be awarded to an incoming freshman with Type 1 diabetes

The deadline to apply is May 15, 2013.

These, and other, scholarships are available through the Diabetes Scholars Foundation.  The purpose of the Diabetes Scholars Foundation is to empower success through education for people living with Type 1 diabetes.  Their mission is to support activities related to education for and about diabetes. This includes but is not limited to funding scholarships for those with type 1 diabetes.  A cornerstone endeavor of the Diabetes Scholars Foundation is its student scholarship program. Since 2008 the Foundation has awarded almost $900,000 in college scholarships to students with Type 1, through scholarships of $5,000 each.  To get more information about their programs or to apply, click HERE.

The College Diabetes Network’s also provides information about scholarships, but also information about a wide variety of other resources for college students who manage T1D.
