From Online Support Forums to Friendships: Lansing’s Networking Coffee Group

in ,

Whether you’re in need of advice from someone who’s been there, looking for educational tools to help you or your loved one manage type 1 diabetes or are interested in connecting with other T1D families—JDRF’s network of supporters are here to help.

What started as a connection on the Diapers and Diabetes Facebook group between Kirsten Watkins and Stephanie Anderson soon turned into a newly launched Lansing Networking Coffee Group aimed to bring the private online forum to life for T1D families in the Lansing-area community.

The Diapers and Diabetes Facebook page was originated by Kirsten Watkins to provide a comforting, support forum for moms and dads who are coping with the daily demands of having a little one with T1D. In addition to this closed Facebook group, which requires those interested in joining to send a request and answer a few questions to protect the safety of the group, Kirsten and Stephanie have encouraged community members to join the Lansing Networking Coffee Group, and meet at the local iHop in Lansing once a month.

Today, Lansing’s group allows T1D families the opportunity to share advice with peers, establish ongoing relationships with families who know firsthand the ever-changing demands of living with T1D and gain access and insight to Breakthrough T1D’s T1D educational tools and resources.
