Senator Baucus Awarded “Breakthrough T1D Hero” at DC Gala Preview

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Research Reception & DC Gala Preview for all committed sponsors. On October 7th, we highlighted our Hope Champion,  Jonathan Legg; Hope Honoree, The Soler Family; and the Gala Chairs, Susan Traver & Craig Walling who will be honored formally at our DC Hope Gala on November 2, 2013.

U.S. Senator Max Baucus received the Breakthrough T1D Hero Award – Breakthrough T1D’s top advocacy honor, reserved for individuals with a passion and commitment to our goal of curing T1D. Senator Baucus has shown his outstanding leadership and tireless commitment to efforts to keep the Special Diabetes Program (SDP) going strong, especially in a very challenging budget environment.

Created in 1997, the SDP provides multi-year funding that has led to the development of new technologies and therapies that are helping people with diabetes and accelerating the pace of science leading to a cure.

Bill Parsons, Breakthrough T1D International Board Member, gave a powerful insight into Breakthrough T1D’s research pipeline and spoke to Breakthrough T1D’s 5 research target areas. Kate Lucus, sophomore at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes, spoke to her very unique experience on the artificial pancreas project at University of Virginia.

We hope you will join us at the DC Hope Gala: Road to Cure on November 2, 2013 at the National Building Museum, for more information visit our website at www.jdrfhopegaladc.org.
