T1D takes no Breaks, Neither Can We!
in General

It has certainly been a busy few weeks here at Breakthrough T1D!
On Sunday, June 1st we wrapped up our third Walk to Cure Diabetes of the season on the National Mall in D.C. The DC Walk was proudly supported by sponsors and in kind donors including Moe’s Southwest Grill, National Postal Mail Handlers Union, Kings Dominion, Network Building + Consulting and The Meltzer Group. It was a beautiful, sunny day filled with entertainment and fun for all! The crowd even got to hear the personal story of Washington Redskins offensive lineman Kory Lichtensteiger, whose brother has T1D. Walkers from all over the area then took to the route- a beautiful walk of the National Mall, which included many popular sites, including many Smithsonian museums. To date, the DC Walk has raised over $530,000- 78% of our goal. Chapter wide- we have raised approximately $1.4 of our $1.7 million Walk goal. We are so close- but our work is not over! Walk teams will continue to fundraise until the end of June for the 2014 Walk season!

On Tuesday, June 3rd Breakthrough T1D hosted the Annual Golf Classic at Green Spring Valley Hunt Club in Owings Mills, MD. Approximately 90 players enjoyed lunch, golf, a cocktail reception and dinner. During dinner, guests were able to hear from and meet special guest Allen Wronowski, 27th President of the PGA of America. There was also a raffle for a number items and prizes given out to tournament winners. Special thanks to the event’s sponsors which included Investment Counselors, LLC and the Law offices of Peter T. Nicholl. The tournament has raised almost $95,000 for type one diabetes research!

Finally, on Thursday, June 5th Breakthrough T1D hosted its 25th Annual Real Estate Games at American University. Once again this event was a booming success! The Real Estate Games were sponsored by over 80 companies in the Washington, DC area commercial real estate community to benefit Breakthrough T1D. We had a record breaking year with 1,900 participants competing in 80 athletic events throughout the day. The highlight of the day was recognizing past chairs & founders of the Games for the 25th anniversary. The Games raised over $415,000 led by Honorary Chair, Bruce Pascal, Vornado / Charles E. Smith, Co-Chairs, Angelea Busby, Savills Studley and Katie Yanushonis, Boston Properties and a committee of over 60 individuals from the commercial real estate community. Thank you to everyone that had a part in making the Games a success!
We are grateful to everyone who has played a part in each of these events!
