Breakthrough T1D Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter interns will be exposed to a wide variety of development practices and have a varied work experience.  In concert with the needs of the chapter, our program allows students to choose a facet of the organization that interests them and learn through hands-on experience. It is intended to provide knowledge, skills, and experience that each intern can apply to future challenges and professional pursuits.

We currently have two internship opportunities available in each of our chapter’s offices – DC and Maryland!

Special Events Interns will have the opportunity to take a leadership role in a key project that will include:

• Support and participate in our Fall Hope Gala (either in Washington, DC or Baltimore). This event attended by over 600 people, raising over $1.4 million, and it includes entertainment, cocktail hours, dinner, and silent and live auctions.
• Work with Gala staff to provide logistical and administrative support in preparation for the Gala
• Support volunteer recruitment strategy and training program to support chapter initiatives
• Plan and implement strategy and improvements to the chapter social media to effectively communicate Breakthrough T1D’s message and provide clear opportunities for donor engagement

Community Outreach Interns will have the opportunity to take a leadership role in a key project that will include:

• Representing Breakthrough T1D and the Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter as Breakthrough T1D Ambassador at local government, corporate, and community events
• Work with Outreach  staff to provide logistical and administrative support in preparation for the Annual Type One Nation Research Summit – an event featuring the foremost experts in the field of type 1 diabetes research field and attended by over 800 people. This event will be held March 7^th, 2015.
• Support volunteer recruitment strategy and training program to support chapter initiatives
• Plan and implement strategy and improvements to the chapter social media to effectively communicate Breakthrough T1D’s message and provide clear opportunities for donor engagement

Qualified Applicants

Applicants should have superior organizational and time management skills, excel working independently and seek to grow as professionals.  Strong interpersonal and communications skills, and comfort in a fast-paced environment are essential.  Applicants must be able to work as a team, and must demonstrate leadership qualities and a willingness to learn. Prior non-profit experience is preferred.

Interns are expected to work at least 20 hours per week, with dates and times flexible. Internships are unpaid, but could receive academic credit or work study for their work with Breakthrough T1D. Please ask your home institution for more information on academic credit approval and policy.
