Qualified Applicants
Applicants should have superior organizational and time management skills, excel at working independently and seek to grow as professionals. Strong interpersonal and communications skills, and comfort in a fast-paced environment are essential. Applicants must be able to work as a team, and must demonstrate leadership qualities and a willingness to learn. Prior non-profit experience is preferred.
How will a Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter intern contribute to the mission of Breakthrough T1D?
Breakthrough T1D Chapter interns will be exposed to a wide variety of development practices and have a varied work experience. In concert with the needs of the chapter, our program allows students to choose a facet of the organization that interests them and learn through hands-on experience. It is intended to provide knowledge, skills, and experience that each intern can apply to future challenges and professional pursuits. Interns will have the opportunity to take a leadership role in a key project that may include:
- Support logistical and recruitment planning for any or all our local, major events this Spring 2016: TypeOneNation DC Research Summit; Breakthrough T1D One Walks in Baltimore, Leesburg, and Washington, DC; Breakthrough T1D Real Estate Games; and Breakthrough T1D Golf Classic
- Assist and help coordinate Breakthrough T1D Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes presentations and programs at local elementary, middle and high schools
- Support volunteer recruitment strategy and training program to support chapter initiatives
- Plan and implement strategy and improvements to the chapter social media to effectively communicate Breakthrough T1D’s message and provide clear opportunities for donor engagement

Your application should explain your interest in Breakthrough T1D and its mission. Please highlight any extracurricular activities you participate in and the dates of your availability. Your cover letter should explain the skills, experience, and interests that qualify you for the internship.
Interns are expected to work 15-20 hours per week, with dates and times flexible. Internships are unpaid, but could receive academic credit or work study for their work with Breakthrough T1D. Please ask your home institution for more information on academic credit approval and policy.
