For 19 years, Fight 4 Diabetes Cure has been committed to raising funds to help bring an end to diabetes. Their mission is to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes and partner with organizations that take action against the disease by raising awareness, advocating prevention, and supporting research. The money raised, largely through an annual golf tournament, benefits Breakthrough T1D and other organizations fighting both type one and type two diabetes.

According to Chairman Phil Cantor, the tournament had humble roots. “It really was just a group of us who golfed together regularly and wanted to make a difference. Every year it continued to grow bigger and bigger to now be larger than anyone ever really thought. I eventually took it over and said, ‘I want this event to be around until it’s no longer needed,'” said Phil.

Today, the Fight 4 Diabetes Cure Golf tournament holds a goal of $175,000 in donations and hosts around 150 golfers each year.

Held at the beautiful Manor Country Club in Rockville, MD on Monday, May 8th this year, this event includes an 18-hole tournament, on-course contests, amazing swag bags, a lavish reception and silent auction, a delicious dinner, live auction, and 50/50 raffle. The evening will conclude with the drawing of the $10,000 raffle ticket winner. The fundraiser has gained a reputation as the premier golf event in Montgomery County and has helped raise over $2.4 million for diabetes education and research to date.

“This all started because of my family. I have a sister, a nephew and a mother-in-law who all either have type one or type two diabetes and this tournament is my way of honoring them. My sister even had a diabetic stroke in her 40s, so it means a lot to me,” said Phil.

The Fight 4 Diabetes Cure website is also live year round so that donations can be made at any time.

“The website used to come down every year after the tournament and I felt it was imperative that we make it a permanent fixture. We wanted people to be able to make donations at any time to honor those living with diabetes or in memory of those they had lost. We felt it was important to show that we were there for them and supporting them every day,” said Phil.
