June 2018 Recap

Here’s what happened in June at the chapter:

June 2 Walk for Hannah Golf Tournament

Hannah Speight and her family, of Yorktown, VA, held the 8th Annual “Walk for Hannah” golf tournament to support Breakthrough T1D on June 2, 2018. We are so thankful for the Speight’s support of Breakthrough T1D. Year after year, the tournament is a fun, educational, and valued event in the community.

This year they raised over $9,000!

June 10 Walk Kickoff

We had our Walk Kickoff Party on June 10th at Haygood Roller Skating Rink in Virginia Beach. Over 20 families came out for a day of skating, pizza, and Walk Talk of course! We are so excited about this year’s Breakthrough T1D One Walk that will take place on October 14 at 31st Street Park in Virginia Beach. Sign up your walk team at walk.jdrf.org/VirginiaBeach to start fundraising today!

June 14 Annual Meeting

Our yearly Annual Meeting was held this month at The Founder’s Inn and Spa in Virginia Beach. Incoming Board President Heather Carr spoke about The State of the Foundation, Board Member Kaddy Hamilton spoke about the State of the Chapter and her son Cecil Ward spoke about his time being apart of a T1D clinical trial at the University of Virginia. Our special guest, Jeramie Irwin of Breakthrough T1D Grassroots Advocacy, shared Breakthrough T1D’s top research advances of the fiscal year. We also honored some outstanding volunteers with our annual volunteer awards. Thank you to everyone who came to learn about Breakthrough T1D’s FY18 Achievements!
