Everyday Heroes – Gabby Mormino

in ,

2018 National Volunteer Week is here! We are grateful to have devoted volunteers who work year round to turn Type One into Type None. We would like to feature our local #EverydayHeroes throughout this week and beyond. It’s an honor to recognize individuals, families and businesses that go above and beyond to serve our local T1D community. First up, meet Gabby Mormino.

Gabby has been volunteering since her son, Marty, was diagnosed almost 8 years ago. Her passion and dedication is truly amazing. Gabby and her husband, Matt, served as Gala Event Chairs in 2013, which raised over $700,000. She currently sits on the Board of Directors, Stewardship Committee, Gala Auction Procurement Committee, and has participated in the Breakthrough T1D One Walk. Gabby also serves as an Outreach Volunteer reaching out to newly diagnosed families. “I have always felt that talking about something that is overwhelming is the best medicine. Sharing and listening to others about the “highs” and “lows” of T1D is very therapeutic and healing,” she said.

Recognizing the need and benefits of bringing like-minded volunteers together, she has established the Breakthrough T1D Friends Group. The group is made up of volunteers who assist the Chapter throughout the year on various programs and events, while at the same time, providing a T1D support system. “It has been a great experience partnering with Gabby. Her willingness to help out whenever needed and bring new ideas to the table is so appreciated. She will not stop until we find a cure!” said Anna Raur, Breakthrough T1D Senior Outreach Manager. Thank you, Gabby!
