Danielle M.: Using my voice to help fund T1D cures!

Advocacy
Hi! I’m Danielle. I work for an incredible company, Van Meter, right here in Cedar Rapids! I am your Advocacy Chair for districts 1 and 2 here in Iowa. What does that mean and why is that important? I’ll get to that 🙂
I was diagnosed with type one diabetes during homecoming week of my junior year of high school… yes, it was as dramatic as you can imagine. 15 years ago, technology and access was not the same.
Breakthrough T1D has saved my life. How you ask? Advocacy and research. All of the things you are going to hear about tonight happen because Breakthrough T1D works incredibly hard to make living with diabetes manageable…while finding the cure.
The technology we wear, the affordable insulin, and everything else that keeps us alive is achieved because of advocacy. I think about my blood sugar every waking minute. Walking my dog, the park with my niece and nephew, volunteering at local schools, speaking to college kids about dreaming big – none of that would be possible without this organization.
That’s where I need you- click the link above or below to sign up to join.
Currently – These are the principles and programs we stand behind to help ensure a future without T1D—and a present where people with this condition can live healthy, full lives.

- Special Diabetes Program
- Insulin access and innovation
- Government funding
- Accelerating access to cures
I promise I’ll only ask for you to help advocate when it really matters. And right now, it really matters. I know we will find a cure, and we can do that with your help. Your dollars, your support, and your voice mean the world to me.
I would love to personally connect with each one of you; to thank you, to hug you, and to join you in this fight.
Sincerely,
Danielle
