Everyday Heroes – Chuck Tomek

in ,

2018 National Volunteer Week is here! We are grateful to have devoted volunteers who work year round to turn Type One into Type None. We would like to feature our local #EverydayHeroes throughout this week and beyond. It’s an honor to recognize individuals, families and businesses that go above and beyond to serve our local T1D community. Our second volunteer highlight, Chuck Tomek.

Chuck is a rockstar! He has served on the Board of Directors and held leadership roles such as Research Information Volunteer and Leadership Giving Chair. Chuck has participated in 14 Ride to Cure Diabetes events across the country. In honor of his daughter, Emily, he has fundraised more than $75,000! Truly an everyday hero, Chuck works as an Emergency Room doctor and has worked other doctors’ shifts if they donate to Breakthrough T1D. He has even completed a Ride with a broken ankle – now that is dedication!

His determination doesn’t stop there! This year, Chuck will serve as our Ride to Cure Diabetes Coach, sharing his passion and enthusiasm for the Ride program with current and prospective riders while training them for their upcoming Ride.

“Chuck is relentless when it comes to Breakthrough T1D. His passion for the Ride program is second to none – always going the extra mile (or 100) to cure T1D. Year after year his commitment to the mission seems to grow bigger and stronger and one day Chuck will Ride in celebration of a cure!” said Sophie Etter, Breakthrough T1D Development Coordinator. Thank you, Chuck!
