Everyday Heroes – Kent & Lori Stopak

in ,

2018 National Volunteer Week is here! We are grateful to have devoted volunteers who work year round to turn Type One into Type None. We would like to feature our local #EverydayHeroes throughout this week and beyond. It’s an honor to recognize individuals, families and businesses that go above and beyond to serve our local T1D community. Today’s highlight, Kent & Lori Stopak.

Kent and Lori do not stop! They have been involved with Breakthrough T1D for over 18 years since their daughter, Sara, was diagnosed with T1D. In that time Kent and Lori have served (and continue to serve) as our Gala Item Pick-up Chairs and Walk Check-in/Registration Chairs. They come back year after year (and bring friends!) to ensure Breakthrough T1D supporters, donors, walkers and families are welcomed with smiles and leave with a smile.

The Stopak’s also fundraise to cure T1D. Over the years, their Walk team has raised more than $142,000! In addition, Lori has organized a Kids Walk at the elementary school where she works and Kent has recruited his Council Bluffs Cosmopolitan Club to sponsor the Breakthrough T1D One Walk and volunteer at a Water Station along the route.

“Kent and Lori are always such a joy to partner with! Our Walk day starts before the sun rises and their wonderful spirit and grateful hearts welcome all of our families to Walk day! I so appreciate them for their dedication to our mission and sharing their passion for a cure,” said Ashley Rusch, Breakthrough T1D Office Manager. Thank you, Kent & Lori!
