NDAM – Local Walk Team Challenges

National Diabetes Awareness Month (NDAM) is observed every November to draw attention to diabetes and its effects on millions of Americans. As the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, Breakthrough T1D leads the way to educate the public, helping the T1D community spread awareness about what it means to live with T1D.

We are challenging Walk team captains and their teams to be engaged this NDAM by participating in a few fun challenges. For each challenge your team completes, you will be entered into a drawing that will take place on December 3, 2018. The prize is valued at over $100 and includes Breakthrough T1D swag and gift cards. There will be one Corporate Team winner and one Family Team winner.

Check out these challenges below! For every activity your team participates in, you will receive one entry into the drawing. This means there are 5 chances to have your team entered! Once you’ve completed a challenge, email us a picture, tag @JDRFGreaterIowa on social media or include us on any email communication so we can confirm you’ve completed the challenge.

  • November 1st: Register your team online at http://bit.ly/OneWalk for one entry into the drawing. Use the Facebook profile frames to let everyone know why you walk and support Breakthrough T1D! Don’t forget to use the hashtag #T1Day.
  • November 7th: Share the Facts/Myths and 24 Hours with T1D one pagers with your team by either emailing it out, sharing on social media or placing it on a break room table for your co-workers to read.
  • November 14th: World Diabetes Day. Encourage your friends, family & office team to wear blue to help bring awareness and when others ask about it, they can share what they have learned while participating in National Diabetes Awareness Month. Be sure to take a picture of your team wearing blue and share it on social media! Don’t forget to use the hashtag #WDD.
  • November 21st: Share a menu example of what it’s like to look at a menu through the eyes of someone living with T1D. Encourage your team to look at their meals for the day and count the carbs.
  • November 27th: Giving Tuesday. Utilize your team’s dashboard on the Walk website to ask family, friends & co-workers to make a donation to the team.  They can even use the new Facebook Fundraising tool to share with even more people. Teams who receive 5 donations online on November 27th by 11:59PM will receive one entry into the drawing.
