Breakthrough T1D Ride is more than just cycling—it’s a movement to find cures for type 1 diabetes (T1D). In 2026, we were thrilled to introduce two new destinations with The Cascades, Washington and Austin, Texas. But we’re also marking the final year of Ride in beautiful Amelia Island, Florida, which means it’s your last chance to join us there on December 3-6!
Since 2016, we’ve raised over $19 million for T1D cures in Amelia Island, and your support can help us roll to a strong finish this year. Here’s everything you need to know before this course heads back into the vault—and don’t miss your chance to register now!
Stunning Scenery on a Great Ride
Riding at Amelia Island is a wonderful way to experience the natural beauty of Northeast Florida. You’ll be treated to flat roads with rest stops perfectly positioned every 13 miles, trees draped in Spanish Moss, and sweeping ocean views.
With route options ranging up to 100 miles, cyclists of all levels can enjoy scenic rides through pristine beaches, marshlands, and maritime forests! And thanks to the flat Florida coastline, Amelia Island is great for beginners who are looking to try their first Breakthrough T1D Ride.
Who wouldn’t want to be in Florida the first week of December? It’s the only Breakthrough T1D ride where we do up to 100 miles on a 20-mile island. If you want flat roads and sunny skies, this is the ride for you! Trust me—the challenge isn’t the hills; it’s the wind…and those two bridges!
When you’re not on the bike, Amelia Island is a wonderful destination for the whole family. Our host hotel, the Omni Amelia Island Resort & Spa, is sandwiched between the beautiful Atlantic Ocean beach on one side and an expansive tidal salt marsh on the other.
On property, the resort offers 3.5 miles of beach, indoor and outdoor pools, a full-service spa, hiking and nature trails, tennis courts, family and youth recreation programming, and 46 holes of golf across the Oak Marsh, Long Point and Little Sandy courses.
Amelia Island itself features over 13 miles of Atlantic Ocean beach, two large state parks with trails, beach access and wildlife viewing, and numerous shops and restaurants in historic, walkable downtown Fernandina Beach.
Easy Access
Amelia Island is conveniently located just outside of Jacksonville near Interstate 10 and Interstate 95, perfect for riders traveling in from Florida, Georgia, and other nearby states in the Southeast.
Additionally, the Ride location is just under a 45-minute drive from Jacksonville International Airport, which boasts direct flights to major destinations across the Northeast, Midwest, and Southern United States—plus Los Angeles, San Diego, Phoenix, and Salt Lake City out west.
Jacksonville is also served by Amtrak’s Floridian and Silver Meteor services, connecting the city with Orlando, Tampa, Miami, and major destinations north along the East Coast.

We’d love to see you on the course this December as we close out a decade of Ride success in Amelia Island! Packages start with our Day Passes ($1,000 minimum raised), and we’ve added additional slots there due to high demand! Everything else from Rider Weekend Pass ($2,500 minimum raised) all the way up to Trailblazer ($12,500 minimum raised) is available, as well.
While there is no minimum fundraising required to participate as a volunteer, any volunteer who raises $100 or more will be eligible for fundraising rewards! As a thank you, all volunteers will receive a t-shirt on site. Volunteers can register directly on ride.BreakthroughT1D.org.
