Byrd’s Eye View – February 2025

in

Earlier this month I was fortunate enough to join staff and volunteers from the Southern Texas Chapter, along with hundreds of others from around the country, at Breakthrough T1D’s annual One Conference in Phoenix. It was a wonderful few days of learning, networking, and sharing, as well as promising research updates, stories of perseverance, and recognition of outstanding volunteers including our very own Jordan Amis from the Houston market who was awarded the Carol and Erwin Lurie Award, the highest honor given to Chapter-based volunteers.

Coming up over the next several weeks and months, we will hold all three of our galas across the Chapter, starting in Houston on April 5, moving to Austin on April 24th and 25th, and concluding on Mother’s Day weekend in San Antonio. These three make up our most important fundraising events of the year, with collective goals nearing $6M. Special thanks to our Chairs, Gala volunteers, and honorees, who are collaborating with staff to ensure all three are successful and memorable. If you have not secured a table, ticket or just want to make a donation, it is not too late! You’ll find more information at our Chapter website, www.breakthrought1d.org/southerntexas.

Take care and thank you for all that you do for Breakthrough T1D and all those impacted by type one diabetes.

Sincerely,

Rick Byrd
